What began as a simple arts and crafts activity, initiated by my son's request, evolved into a thriving venture that led me into the realms of manufacturing and global distribution.
One day, when my son was around 4 or 5 years old, he requested that I draw a picture on a small piece of paper—a cube or block from a paper pad glued together on one side. He wanted it for coloring with crayons. So, I happily obliged. His enthusiasm for more pictures grew, and I found myself drawing one after another.
As his interest deepened, he asked me to cut them out so he could assemble a mobile from these colorful artworks. It was at that moment that the concept of the Magical Mobile Coloring Cube was born.
I began exploring the feasibility of manufacturing a product featuring various pictures on each page, enabling children to express themselves by coloring and creating a hanging mobile. During the process of developing a prototype, I encountered the challenge of high manufacturing costs, which would make it difficult to sell at a reasonable price.
However, my journey didn't stop there. This experience ignited my passion for manufacturing and unleashed my creative potential.
I initiated the process of crafting my unique artwork for silk screening on the sides of the notepad. My creative endeavors led to the creation of approximately 40 distinct designs. During this journey, I noticed that the adhesive used to hold the notepad together had a certain flexibility to it. This discovery inspired me to experiment with marketing the product as the "QB Square," presenting it as a notepad with a twist.
Driven by this innovative concept, I established a new company. Our venture involved introducing this innovative product to buyers all across the United States. We showcased our QB Square at stationery and gift shows nationwide, taking part in conventions and setting up booths to promote our creative notepad. Furthermore, we successfully arranged for our products to be featured on the TV series "Central Park West." Our notepads were custom-designed and placed on every desk within the show's office settings, gaining valuable visibility and exposure.
We received orders from a wide range of retailers, including Macy's, Fortunoff's, 500 Marshall's stores across the nation, Genovese Drug Stores, small local shops, and even mail-order catalogs. Our reach extended globally, as we shipped an entire container to Sao Paulo, Brazil, which was an exhilarating milestone.
The most thrilling part of our journey was the remarkable success of our designs, particularly the "Piano Notes" and "Music Notes." These designs were in high demand at Fortunoff's, where they were thoughtfully displayed alongside other musical merchandise. Reorders were pouring in week after week, a testament to their popularity.
We also expanded our horizons by offering customized designs, such as the "Canadian Flag QB Square" for our neighbors in Canada. Additionally, we collaborated with corporations to create unique, branded designs. Notably, we introduced the "Dreidel Notes" cube for Chanukah, which gained traction through Israeli catalogs.
Our entire company and product line were crafted from scratch, and the journey was an enormous success, marked by remarkable growth and widespread appeal.
