In 1981, I had an appearance in the American drama film "The Chosen," directed by Jeremy Kagan and adapted from Chaim Potok's bestselling 1967 novel of the same name. The movie featured a stellar cast, including Maximilian Schell, Rod Steiger, and Robbie Benson. At the 1981 Montréal World Film Festival, the film received the Grand Prix of the Americas, and Rod Steiger earned the Best Actor award.
My manager, Maria Brescio, was instrumental in arranging my audition for this role in New York City. She was the owner of Sunshine Talent, a personal management agency. Many years later, when Maria made the decision to retire, I assumed control of the agency and the team that represented children, teenagers, and infants across different facets of the entertainment industry, including television, film, stage, and commercials.
In my capacity as a personal manager, I assumed a pivotal role in directing the careers of individuals in the TV and entertainment industry. My primary responsibility was to help my clients develop their careers, offering guidance on career goals, strategies, and project choices, ensuring that they made informed decisions.
In addition, I leveraged my extensive industry connections and networking to help my clients find suitable opportunities. I acted as a liaison with agents, casting directors, producers, and other professionals to connect my clients with potential projects.
Negotiating contracts and compensation served as another crucial aspect of my role. For instance, I successfully negotiated a contract with NBC and Disney for one of our clients, John Anthony, who later went on to star in the TV pilot "Turner and Hooch" and "The Wonder Years." Sunshine Talent also managed Kevin Connolly from his childhood until he was approximately 20 years old. Securing an impressive track record that included appearances in hundreds of TV commercials and supporting roles in several films. My aim was to secure the most favorable terms and protect my clients' interests in their financial agreements. Kevin Connolly's breakthrough role came when he portrayed Eric Murphy, also known as "E," in the hit HBO television series "Entourage." His performance as the loyal and hardworking manager to the character Vincent Chase (played by Adrian Grenier) earned him widespread recognition and acclaim.
In the realm of branding and publicity, we worked to build and maintain my clients' public image and brand. I oversaw public relations campaigns, marketing strategies, and social media presence to enhance my clients' visibility.
We also assumed the responsibility of financial management, which included ensuring the timely receipt and distribution of residual payments, particularly from commercials, to our clients.
We also assisted in creative input and collaborated with my clients on projects. I provided constructive feedback and support to help my clients excel in their roles and make creative contributions.
I excelled in problem-solving, offering solutions to challenges and obstacles that arose during my clients' careers. I acted as a resource for conflict resolution and support during challenging times.
I also provided emotional support, acting as a confidant for my clients, especially during stressful or challenging phases in their careers. This emotional support was crucial in helping my clients stay motivated and focused.
In terms of legal and compliance matters, I ensured that my clients complied with industry regulations and legal requirements. I worked closely with entertainment attorneys to address legal issues and navigate contracts and agreements effectively.
